Most of our suppliers require payment to be made by a driver of the rental vehicle, either the main driver or one of the extra drivers. If the person who will be paying for the car rental won't be named on the rental contract as a driver, conditions may apply (e.g. it may be necessary to take out the extra cover offered). In any event, if a non-driver will be paying for the hire, we need to know this so that we can confirm that it will be possible.
If in doubt, drop us an e-mail. We want your car rental to go as smoothly as possible!
The price shown with most of our suppliers includes CDW (collision damage waiver) and TP (theft protection) WITH an excess. This means that in the event of damage to the vehicle during the hire, the customer is liable for repair costs up to but not exceeding the amount of the excess. The excess amount varies from one company to another and also between vehicle groups, but is currently between 850€ and 2500€. The excess will either be taken as a deposit or held as a pre-authorization on the credit card.
All of our suppliers offer optional extra cover which waives the excess and also includes tyres, glass, mirrors, etc. The cost of the optional extra cover varies, but it is normally in the order of 13€ to 20€ per day, with a maximum charge (applicable for hire periods of longer than 14 days) of approximately 190€ to 200€.
Many of our customers choose to contract their own daily or annual excess (+ tyres, glass, etc.) cover as this option can prove significantly cheaper than purchasing the extra cover offered by the car rental company. Note that if you do have you own cover it will still be necessary to leave the excess deposit (in the event of loss of any of this deposit, you would claim it back from your own cover). The car rental companies do not accept insurance certificates from 3rd party companies.
If you would like to contract your own excess cover, we recommend Questor. Questor offer excess cover from just £2.49 per day for Europe and an annual policy from £39.98. You can get a quote for your hire period with Questor here.
The fuel policy applicable varies from one company to another. However, unless otherwise indicated (e.g. 'full-full fuel'), most of our suppliers operate a 'full - as is' policy: on collection customers are charged for a full tank of fuel plus a service charge (approx. 20 - 30 euros). At the end of the hire, the vehicle can be delivered back 'as is' (i.e. without refuelling) and a proportional refund will be made for the fuel remaining in the tank. It also possible to deliver back full for a full refund of the fuel portion. The service charge is NON-REFUNDABLE in both cases.
A number of our suppliers offer a full-full fuel arrangement at a special full-full rate. This means that provided you return the vehicle with no less fuel than on delivery, you will only pay for the fuel you use (i.e. no service charge applies). The way that the the companies operate the full-full arrangement varies: some (e.g. Centauro and Niza Cars) charge for the fuel in the tank at the start of the hire and then refund this charge at the end of the hire. Others (e.g. Drivalia and Solmar) do not charge for the fuel in the tank but rather just ask customers to return the vehicle with no less fuel than on delivery. In the case of Solmar, if the vehicle is returned with less fuel than on delivery, a refuelling service charge will apply plus a charge for the missing fuel. If you do choose full-full fuel, be careful to deliver back with the same amount of fuel as on delivery!
Payment on pick-up: We work on a 100% payment on pick-up basis. This means you don't pay anything at all until you pick-up your vehicle. What's more, we do not ask for your credit/debit card details as a guarantee during the booking process. Cancellation is always completely free of charge, right up to the last minute (but do let us know if you need to cancel, please!).
Credit cards: All companies will accept Visa and MasterCard credit cards. Some types of credit card (e.g. American Express and Diners Club) are NOT accepted by some companies. If you need to pay using a credit card other than Visa or MasterCard, please contact us so that we can check with our supplier.
Debit cards: Some companies (e.g. Centauro, Drivalia, Goldcar and Record) will accept debit card payment. This will normally need to be by Visa or MasterCard Debit (NOT those marked 'for electronic use only'). Some other debit cards (e.g. Maestro) MAY be accepted but we will need to confirm with our supplier. When a debit card is used for payment, it will ALWAYS be necessary to take out the full extra cover offered by the car rental company. A deposit may also be required (e.g. 300€ with Centauro).
Please note: payment conditions vary from time to time. If you do need to pay by debit card, please indicate this in the comments on our Booking Form so that we can re-confirm with our supplier if necessary.
Cash: Payment in cash is NOT possible.
Who can make payment?: Normally it will be necessary for the main named driver to make payment with his/her card. If the main driver is not a card holder and another member of the party will be using his/her card, conditions may apply: for example, the extra cover may be obligatory or an extra driver charge may apply (even if only the main driver will be driving). It is NEVER possible to use the card of a person not present on collection of the vehicle.
If you are not clear about any aspect of payment, please contact us and we can clarify.
